Coloma Outdoor Discovery School is located in the town of Coloma, one hour east of Sacramento and just off Highway 49. Our riparian campus sits upon over a mile of riverbank along the South Fork American River.  This unique location allows students to experience California gold rush history and natural history first hand.  A short walk across a historic one-lane bridge allows students to visit the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park which includes a replica of Sutter's Mill, a visitor’s museum, numerous historical artifacts, and beautiful hiking trails.

Driving Directions

From Sacramento, take Highway 50 East toward Lake Tahoe.  After approximately 30 miles, exit at Ponderosa/North Shingle Road.  Go Left over Hwy 50 and turn right on North Shingle Road.  North Shingle will become Lotus Road. Follow Lotus Rd. to Highway 49.  Turn Right on Highway 49 and drive ¾ mile to Mt. Murphy Road (just after the Sutter Mill replica) and turn left.  Cross over the one-lane bridge and make an immediate right turn into Coloma Resort.
